  Silicone is a polymer containing silicon together with carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. Silicone and rubber are both elastomers (rubber-like material). Silicone will appear matte compare to latex which will appear glossy/ shiny.   Silicone can be used in the making of molds, usually for craft or baking purposes   Silicone also can be used in the making of products that mimic a lifelike human, or as the extension of the human body, or prosthetic,  as seen in these pictures below lifelike/ realistic reborn baby doll Silicone man chest Silicone man bodysuits lifelike/ realistic prosthetic Silicone for prosthetic makeup effect 

  If you have seen my previous posts about latex and silicone, you will notice that both of them can be used to make prosthetic. You might be wondering what is the differences between the two.  Based on my experience, latex is cheaper than silicone. Additionally, they are both a two parts packages, meaning there will be part A + part B that have to be mixed together. There are two types of rubber, the natural one and a   synthetic one . Let's start with the natural one, a  n atural rubber is taken from a rubber tree called H evea Brasiliensis.  Hevea Brasiliensis  is a species of rubberwood that is native to rainforests in the Amazon region of South America, including Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia. These trees are  generally found  in low-altitude moist forests, wetlands, riparian zones, and forest gaps.  Natural rubber  is extracted by a method called tapping, by  making  incisions into the bark and collecting the fluid into vessels attached to the  rubber  trees. The earliest archeological evidence of the use of natural latex from the  Hevea tree  comes from the  Olmec  culture, in which rubber was first used for making balls for the  Mesoamerican ballgame .  Rubber was later used by the  Maya  and  Aztec  cultures – in addition to making balls Aztecs used rubber for other purposes such as making containers and to make textiles waterproof by impregnating them with the latex sap.
