  In the beginning, the use of rubber (which  includes natural rubber, many types of synthetic rubbers, silicone rubber, PVC) is  only for small ordinary things such as  rubber bands, rubber gloves, tires, and garden hoses.   Regarding latex, it can be used for prosthetics for Halloween or movies. However, the closest possibility for latex to being worn as clothing were could only be seen in adult clothing. Also, latex is being used for costumes for music videos, movies.   However, these days, Latex as one of the types of rubber has made it into the fashion industry.   As I mentioned in many of my posts, there are natural rubber and synthetic rubber. Moreover, there are a few names of synthetic rubber such as synthetic latex, SBR, and neoprene. On top of that, there are rubber-like materials such as silicone, and jelly rubber.  Jelly rubber is made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) that has softeners (called phthalates) added to it.  Many of the rubber-like fashion products available on the market are made of this material, such as this shoe Moreover, they are using heavy machinery such as this to produce it.
